Extracellular Polysaccharide Production and Biofilm Formation by Coagulase-negative Staphylococci

چکیده
Coagulase-negative Staphylococci (CoNS) form a part of the skin flora and commonly cause nosocomial bloodstream and catheterrelated infections. According to their relatively low virulence, it is important to detect the virulence factors of clinical isolates. The production of extracellular polymers and formation of biofilms belong to virulence factors. We studied clinical isolates of CoNS and compared them with isolates from the healthy skin. The species distribution did not differ significantly. Slime production in clinical strains was more often and more intense. A comparison of methicillin-resistant (MR) and methicillinsensitive (MS) clinical strains has revealed that slime production is more active in MR strains.

Lipase, protease, and biofilm as the major virulence factors in staphylococci isolated from acne lesions.
Staphylococci involve infections in association with a number of bacterial virulence factors. Extracellular enzymes play an important role in staphylococcal pathogenesis. In addition, biofilm is known to be associated with their virulence. In this study, 149 staphylococcal isolates from acne lesions were investigated for their virulence factors including lipase, protease, and biofilm formation....
متن کاملEvidence for inter- and intraspecies biofilm formation variability among a small group of coagulase-negative staphylococci.
Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) are common bacterial colonizers of the human skin. They are often involved in nosocomial infections due to biofilm formation in indwelling medical devices. While biofilm formation has been extensively studied in Staphylococcus epidermidis, little is known regarding other CoNS species. Here, biofilms from six different CoNS species were characterized in te...
متن کاملBiofilm Formation and Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Staphylococcus epidermidis Strains from a Hospital Environment
The hospital environment microflora comprise a wide variety of microorganisms which are more or less pathogenic and where staphylococci are one of the most common types. The aim of the presented study was to evaluate the prevalence of the biofilm forming coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) in a hospital environment as a risk factor for nosocomial infections. Among 122 isolated and tested st...
متن کاملStudy on some characteristics of Staphylococci isolated from sheep sub clinical mastitis milk in Shahrekord, Iran
Introduction: Staphylococci release a large number of enzymes. Some of these, such as coagulase, beta lactamase, hemolysins and biofilms are considered indices of pathogenicity. The aim of the current study was based on the isolation and identification of Staphylococcus aureus and coagulase negative Staphylococci (CNS) strains from sheep sub clinical mastitis and examining their biofilm, beta l...
متن کاملBiofilm formation by Staphylococcus haemolyticus.
Infections due to coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) most frequently occur after the implantation of medical devices and are attributed to the biofilm-forming potential of CoNS. Staphylococcus haemolyticus is the second most frequently isolated CoNS from patients with hospital-acquired infections. There is only limited knowledge of the nature of S. haemolyticus biofilms. The aim of this st...
